Dear Orleans Central Supervisory Union Community, After hearing from our road crews across our Orleans Central Supervisory Union towns and their concerns about the potential for black ice on our dirt roads later this afternoon, we are calling for an early dismissal today out of an abundance of caution. Preschool and middle schools will begin dismissal at 11:30 a.m. Elementary schools will begin dismissal at 11:35 a.m. The high school will dismiss at 11:45 a.m. We will not be having any afterschool activities. Please look for additional communication from principals, athletic directors, and coaches about any games that are scheduled for this evening. The safety of our students, staff, and families is always our top priority, and we appreciate your understanding and flexibility as we make decisions based on changing road conditions. Please take care as you travel today, and thank you for your continued partnership and support. Warmly, Jackie Ramsay-Tolman - your OCSU Superintendent

We had a great first day at Jay Peak on Monday! With lots of snow coverage and lots of lifts open, the kids were able to enjoy the mountain at their level! Shout out to our beginners who worked hard to learn a new sport!

Today our Jr. Firefighters took part in hands-on safety drills to experience what real rescue work feels like. One of their activities involved blindfolding themselves to simulate searching for and rescuing someone in a smoke-filled building. Students practiced moving carefully, communicating with their partners, and staying calm under pressure. They did an awesome job!

Ask your child about their clubs this session!

We had an amazing whole-school celebration on Friday! The energy in the building was electric as each grade level showed off their spirit, proudly repping their assigned colors and going head-to-head in a series of fun, friendly competitions. From teamwork to creativity to pure determination, everyone brought their A-game.

A huge shout-out to 7th grade for taking home first place—they earned it!

The Committee seeks input on the concept of a regional Elementary and Middle School to be constructed adjacent to the Lake Region High School.

The Committee will present an overview of this plan and alternatives, offer an opportunity for questions, and listen to feedback from attendees.

OCSU faces significant challenges that require the attention and cooperation of the community to address: the rising costs of education and the subsequent increases in taxation; the need to provide an excellent education for our students in safe, welcoming, and productive settings; the need to alleviate staffing shortages by providing a safe, sustainable, and enriching work environment; and to house our educational enterprise in school buildings that are efficient, functional, and cost-effective.

To meet these challenges, OCSU assessed the current state of our school buildings and facilities, considered the implications of forming a central middle school, and analyzed multiple scenarios involving the renovations of our buildings in combination with new construction. The architecture firm of Truex-Cullins was hired to assist in our analyses.

Truex-Cullins' work has shown that the least expensive option in the long term is to build a new regional elementary and middle school adjacent to Lake Region Union High School.

Whether to move in this direction will be the choice of the eligible voters of the seven towns that make up the Supervisory Union. This Forum will help educate these voters that ultimately shape the quality of education in our community.

For more information please link to the Long-Term Planning section of the OCSU website: (https://www.ocsu.org) including the Truex-Cullins reports and the work of the Committee.

Every Friday afternoon we hold an assembly in the gym with all students and staff! Just one of the few ways we aim to build community at ACS. Our assemblies follow the ABC format: Acknowledgements - Students and staff give positive shout-outs to each other! Business - Important school business is announced here. Community - A short game is organized that requires representatives from each grade while their peers cheer them on! As we've settled into this new routine, staff members have taken turns running assembly but stay tuned because next week, we have our first pair of students running Friday assemblies! We're excited to see what they come up with! Last Friday, grades competed in a team-building cup challenge! It was so fun to watch them work together on this challenge! Shout-out to 7th grade for winning! Nice team work!
