The VT School Boards Association (VSBA) recognizes the value that diversity brings to school board governance. Therefore, VSBA is helping districts increase the number of qualified candidates who run for open seats and improve representation on boards. WHY? For a number of years there’s been a growing number of school districts that have had to fill board member vacancies via appointments rather than through the electoral process. By identifying resources, removing barriers and delivering information,VSBA hopes to encourage community members to consider engaging in the important service school boards provide. Please take this opportunity to learn how you can “get on board” and help make the decisions that will shape our children’s future.

The Lake Region Union Elementary-Middle School District and the Central Orleans Family Education Center are requesting proposals for plowing, sanding, and snow removal for the 2024 season. Interested parties should email mkittredge@ocsu.org for details.
Do you want to get involved in OCSU by volunteering in the schools? Do you want to go on your child's field trip? Have you ever thought about substituting within OCSU? Have you found it difficult to get the process started?
The Orleans County Sheriff's Dept (OCSD) and OCSU will be offering completion of the entire background check process as a one-stop shop to families and staff within OCSU.
This will be held on 9/20/23 from 3:00pm - 6:00pm at COFEC - 130 Kinsey Road, Barton, VT 05822.
Anyone who is interested in volunteering with us or becoming a substitute can attend. Those teachers who need BG checks for licensing can attend as well. If someone wants to volunteer in OCSU and is employed at another SU, they can come by and complete a secondary dissemination request with me if they have completed a BG check in the last three years. There will be no payment for the secondary dissemination request.
***Please note that if paying by check, you may need two checks, one for OCSU and one for OCSD.

Are you interested in becoming a Paraeducator but don't know where to start? North Country Career Center has an opportunity for you!!
From October 19th through November 9th, they are holding a course called "Prepare to become a Paraeducator." The course will run four weeks on Thursdays from Oct 19-Nov 9 from 4:00pm - 5:30pm.
